The menopause after gynaecological cancer, or in women at increased genetic risk of cancer – what do GPs need to know?

Author: Dr. Kirsty Gillies

Format: Top tips Source: PCWHS document

As cancer survival improves, GPs are increasingly asked about management of the menopause in women who have survived vaginal cancer, and may have already been discharged from specialist care. This article summaries a longer guideline from the British Menopause Society and British Gynaecological Cancer Society and can be used as the basis for a discussion with the patient. In most cases it will still be appropriate to discuss with the consultant who managed the woman’s cancer; and referral to a specialist menopause clinic may also be useful.

This resource has been produced on behalf of the PCWHS. It is for guidance only; healthcare professionals should use their own judgment when applying it to patient care.
