Ovarian cancer is common and often presents with non-specific symptoms, leading to a late diagnosis and poor prognosis. Did you know that any woman who has a first- or second- degree relative with ovarian cancer should be referred to consider genetics screening? In this top tips article, Anne Connolly discusses the importance of family history, as well as the common presenting symptoms and the interpretation of a raised Ca125. The reasons why we don’t offer population screening for ovarian cancer are also outlined, along with a brief summary of the options that may be offered to women who are at a higher risk of cancer of the ovary.
