Pelvic organ prolapse is common – risk factors include previous childbirth, obesity, chronic cough or constipation, menopause, connective tissue disorders and a family history of prolapse. This document discusses the classification of prolapse and the various facets of management, from conservative measures such as weight loss and pelvic floor exercises, to the use of vaginal pessaries and referral for consideration of surgery if indicated.
